Who can purchase Real Estate in Japan?
A. Anyone is able to purchase real Estate in Japan. There are no
residential or tax requirements prior to purchase.
*Please note that owning property does not give you the right to
reside in Japan. For long term residence a visa is required, and
we can introduce you to a number of qualified immigration
professionals.
What charges are there in addition to the purchase
price?
A. The main charges are legal fees required for the transfer of
title, the brokerage fee for the Estate Agency, and the property
acquisition tax. On a standard wooden building this will come to
6-8% of the purchase price. For a full breakdown of purchase
costs on any of the properties we list, please email us.
What paperwork is required?
A. Prior to signing any contract you must go through a
disclosure document with a licensed real estate agent. This
document will inform you of any legal and other issues with the
property concerned. Once you have signed off on the disclosure
document the contracts can be signed. Although contracts are in
Japanese and English, the Japanese version is the legally
binding one. Compared to western contracts, the details are very
simple and it may only be a 2 - 3 page document. |
